People in Los Angeles hate/loathe/are disgusted by the Los Angeles Police department. I have never seen so much angst and contempt for a group in my life.
It’s not just a song that you’ve heard back in the day-
It’s more of a mantra. It’s more of a creed.
Whenever I have encountered the police here I smile, take a picture and say Hi, but the people who live here, the people who are FROM LA, seem to get a nervous twitch when they see the police and the disgust is evident. In fact, I was on the train twice when police officers came to check our TAP cards and the young men sitting near me didn’t have valid cards. Even though the officers were not being rude at all, I thought that the young men were going to explode with rage. The officers, both times, let the young men go with a warning but long after the police left, the young men (A black man and a hispanic man) were still seething with anger and contempt.
It seems to be inherent as older local Los Angelinos, better known as Locos, openly express their disdain for the police and see Los Angeles county as the people versus the police, sharing stories of police setups and having to organize groups to ward off the tactics to hurt them facilitated by the police.
It’s one of those situations where- He’s a cool guy but, he’s the police.
People in Los Angeles HATE THE POLICE with a vengeance.
