Dear MTLA,
I am actually coming to LA to pursue an acting career but I’m having a hard time deciding where I want to live. What city do you think would be best for a beginning actor who will be relying on public transportation?
A.
Hey there!
You can definitely move to Los Angeles without a car and thrive here. The Metro system here is awesome and I highly recommend it to anyone whether you have been to Los Angeles before or not. Check out this video where I explain my life as a transit rider and how much I love it.
You can also take a peek at the chart I created below to find my recommendations for a neighborhood to live in. For new Los Angeles transplants without a car, I suggest you live near the Metro Red Line so that you can experience the core of the city.
When you find a place online in one of the neighborhoods listed below, simply google the address of the Red Line stop and see how far the address of your new residence is from the stop. A 20 minute walk to the train station will be good for you and one bus ride away won’t hurt either.
