After moving to Los Angeles with less than $200 and managing to survive here by myself with no friends or family and no support for nearly 3 years, I can tell you definitively that the scariest thing about moving to Los Angeles is not the crime statistics or gangs.
The scariest part about moving to Los Angeles actually happens before you move here.
When you are preparing to move to Los Angeles you are usually a bundle of nerves wondering if you can really make it happen, what the people will be like, wondering if you will get lost in the city or even worse, have to move back home because you can not hack it here.
Once you get here you will see that the scary clips they show on the news are for ratings and Los Angeles is like any other county filled with diverse neighborhoods and people. If you have managed to make a life for yourself in the city you are currently living in, you can do the same here.
To ease your fears before moving to Los Angeles, you can do a few important things:
1, Watch my video series on Moving to Los Angeles. I have gone through most of your fears and lived to tell about them. I have been scammed. I have had nowhere to live. I have been unemployed. I have been lost. I have made it through all of these obstacles and then some and I am doing just fine.
2. Understand that it is okay for things not to work out as planned. NOTHING I planned for my move to Los Angeles actually happened the way that I envisioned it. I planned to stay in Los Angeles and meet my goals within one year and nearly 3 years later I am still working on them. That is perfectly fine. Life is not a race or a test. When you decide that the bumps in the road are there for your entertainment and to boost your problem solving skill set, you will begin to feel better about life.
3. Fears come into play and end up making you stall in your progress when you imagine a scenario that you do not believe you will have a resolution for. If you want to overcome all of your fears, think about those things that you feel will push you to fail and find solutions for them RIGHT NOW. If you fear you might become homeless, learn how to overcome that. If you believe you may not find people to trust, learn how to navigate this world alone. If you are afraid that no one will choose you during an audition, become better at your craft. There is no problem that can be presented to you that others have not gone through or that I have not personally gone through and if others than overcome those obstacles, so can you.
