The hike to the Hollywood Sign is a rite of passage for new LA transplants. If you haven’t had a chance to do it yet, it seems like you won’t be able to get as close as you would have in the past- at least during the evening hours.
This week the trail to hike to the Hollywood Sign will be closed off in preparation for a new, higher gate which will curb the amount of visitors who have access to walk up to the sign at night. In the past, walking up to the sign was prohibited. When the reached the old t-shaped gate, they simply climbed over it for the chance to take their once-in-a-lifetime photo.
Once the new gate is constructed, the trail will be closed from dusk until dawn, satisfying the complaints of neighboring homeowners who say the traffic hinders them from feeling safe if they need an emergency response.
